Debt can happen to anyone at any time. It's important to get support early as debts can spiral out of control and become unmanageable. If you're behind with payments to someone you owe money to, it's best to contact them to discuss a reasonable payment plan.
We work closely with these partner organisations to provide independent support for our tenants to advise on debt management plans:
The Independent Food Aid Network has created this easy-to-use tool that you can use to find sources of advice and support if you're struggling to make ends meet. Simply select from a set of options that describe the problem you're facing, and see which local organisations can offer you help.
StepChange Debt Charity have developed an online toolkit called Debt Remedy.
When you log in for online advice from Debt Remedy you’re asked a series of questions about your financial situation - how much money you’ve got coming in each month, how much you need to spend on your essentials, who you owe money to, and how much you owe. You're then asked a bit more about whether you own any valuable assets, and if any other circumstances might affect the advice you are given.
Using the answers you provide, Debt Remedy then recommends your next steps, debt solutions suitable to you, and different ways to manage your money. You then get your Debt Remedy Personal Action Plan which tells you what you need to do next to get started.
