A return to meaningful employment for Emma

Pattern circle

When Emma moved into her Twenty11 home, she was lacking in confidence to get back into work and needed some guidance. After initial discussions with her Realising Potential Specialist, Nichola, Emma set herself a clear goal: to return to meaningful employment and begin a career in childcare.

As a single mother to a young daughter with special educational needs, Emma was determined to find a role that not only offered flexibility around her daughter but also aligned with her passion for working with children. Most importantly, Emma wanted to become financially independent and reduce her reliance on benefits.

Nichola and Emma identified that gaining accredited qualifications would significantly improve her chances of securing work in the childcare sector. She researched suitable training options and found two short courses with the help of Nichola that would help her take the first steps:

  • Level 2 NVQ in Childcare
  • Accredited Paediatric First Aid course

Financially, completing these courses was a barrier for Emma, as she couldn’t afford to pay for them, so she applied to the Aspiration Pot for funding to cover the cost of both courses and a laptop to support her online learning. Her application was successful, and Twenty11 provided full funding for the training and equipment.

With her new qualifications in hand, Emma went on to secure a role at a local children’s nursery. The position is term-time only and offers flexible hours, allowing her to balance work with her responsibilities as a parent. She is now working towards gaining a management role and is undertaking her Level 3 Childcare Educator qualification.

Emma is now earning an income, no longer solely reliant on benefits, and is thriving in a role she truly enjoys. She is proud to be working in her dream job and excited about her future in the childcare sector. Emma also provided feedback six months after completing her Personal Success Plan where she said that she had ‘gained better employment since starting her PSP’.
